Strengthening Cooperation in Managing Invasive Alien Species Towards Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development

Overview: A national workshop in Viet Nam, co-organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and UNDP, focused on strengthening invasive alien species (IAS) management. Supported by the Global Environment Facility, the event gathered nearly 100 stakeholders to share models and technologies for early detection, prevention, and control of IAS. Citing the 2023 IPBES report, participants emphasized IAS as a major driver of biodiversity loss. Successful case studies, including Mimosa pigra control and water hyacinth utilization, were presented. The workshop advanced national strategies and intersectoral coordination, highlighting the need for public awareness, community engagement, and international cooperation to safeguard ecosystems and livelihoods.
